The Path to Membership
Welcome to the Universalist Unitarian Church of Joliet! By the time you read this, we hope you will have attended a couple of worship services and met some of the great people who call UUCJ their spiritual home. Our Unitarian Universalist faith is a free faith; those that become part of our church community do so with open minds and hearts. We offer a safe and challenging community, where we are open to learning from one another in a spirit of love and compassionate acceptance. Joining this church means that you are ready to take your spiritual life seriously, that you are willing to share your resources with us, and that you are able to participate in the life of this congregation through worship, study, and service. Being a member means that you will become a full partner in this democratic faith, which has its trust in you. When you become a member, you have a voice and a vote in decision making in our religious community. Everything that happens at UUCJ is made possible by our members and friends. We are an autonomous congregation. We are also part of a large family of religious liberals, members of the Central Midwest District and the Unitarian Universalist Association. Interested in Joining? 1. Meet the people of UUCJ, especially the representatives of the membership committee. Ask questions. Get to know us. We’ll get to know you, too. 2. Get involved in activities and feel free to volunteer for anything that looks interesting. 3. Sign up for a “New UU Gathering.” These classes are designed to acquaint people with “UUism” and with UUCJ. They are taught by members of the congregation. 4. Make the Decision. Only you can decide when you are ready to make a commitment and become a member of UUCJ. When the time is right, you can set a joining date. 5. Share your gifts. Everything we do is made possible by the resources we share with one another. You’ll be asked to complete a financial pledge form and consider other ways you might participate at UUCJ like committee or volunteer work. Our volunteer coordinator can help you decide. Your Time, Talent and Treasures help make our church what it is.
